The plant contains bitter glycosides absintin, anabsintin, flavonoids, volatile oil, phytoncides, alkaloids, kapillin, vitamins, organic acids, tannins.Mugwort is herb which is very popular in Chinese medicine. It has various properties: chologogue, vermifuge, emmenagogue, hemostatic, antispasmodic, mild narcotic, bitter narcotic. It has stimulant and slightly tonic properties, and is of value as a nervine, having also diuretic and diaphoretic action. Its chief employment is as an emmenagogue. It is also useful as a diaphoretic in the commencement of cold. Mugwort is considered to be nerve tonic, appetite enhancer, diuretic, sweat inducer, stimulate digestion and bile flow, uterine stimulant. As a nervine, Mugwort is valued in palsy, fits, epileptic and similar affections, being popular for epilepsy.
